IKEA. Now Mac compatible!

Well…not the store, but rather their Home Planner software. A recent update now allows Mac users to design and create the IKEA home or apartment of their dreams in their browser. We are huge IKEA fans (which will probably begin to lead to some new posts down the road) and wish we would have had access to this feature about a month ago when we went and purchased our PAX closet system. It could have saved us about 30 minutes with an in-store assistant (who was great) and allowed us more time to get at the Swedish meatballs! Learn where to grab your Mac plugin after the click.

So, if you’re an IKEA fan and hankering to design that new kitchen or planning system, drop on over to:

An Internet plugin for the Mac will be waiting for you. Just install, restart Safari, return to the page and in no time you’ll be redesigning your dwelling in the latest “you build it - flat packed” systems as shown in the image below. The software is easy to use and is a drag-and-drop affair. Warning though, you really need to have some measurements for your rooms if you intend to use this for real planning. Oh, don’t get me wrong, it is fun to play around in, but for serious planning, break out that tape measure. As you can see in the image below, the software also provides the ability to match your wall and flooring colors/textures to better portray the final room design with your selected IKEA solutions.

Man we love IKEA! Look for more IKEA stories and ideas as we begin to try and become more regular with our GUOM posts. We’ve been away for some time, but hope to begin sharing our favorite things again so friends, family and readers can keep up with what’s occupying our time and budget. As always, feel free to drop a comment. You can share your favorite designs or we can just discuss the beauty, simplicity and “cheapness” that is IKEA.
