Apple releases 8-core Mac Pro (Drooooool!)

We would say something really witty and cool about this new Mac Pro, but our tongues are hanging out and covering our keyboard. Eight processors (2 quad-cores) in a single Mac and each one running at 3.0 GHz? Yeow! Here’s the low down from the Apple site:

Quad-core or 8-core, all Xeon
Every Mac Pro packs the power of two multi-core Intel Xeon processors. Choose two 3.0GHz quad-core “Clovertown” processors — the fastest quad-core Intel Xeon available — for groundbreaking, 8-core power. Or configure a quad-core Mac Pro with a pair of dual-core “Woodcrest” processors at 2.0GHz, 2.66GHz, or 3.0GHz.

Up to 3TB storage
Install up to four 750GB hard drives in four independent, 3Gb-per-second Serial ATA drive bays using a cable-free, direct-attach system.

High-performance graphics
Every Mac Pro graphics card supports dual displays and at least one 30-inch display. For added performance, you can choose upgraded, workstation-class graphics cards that can also power two 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Displays.

Up to 16GB RAM
Add up to 16GB of 667MHz DDR2 ECC fully buffered memory — a memory architecture that’s up to 256 bits wide and allows for greater memory capacity, faster speeds, and better reliability.

We spec’d one just see what this baby would set us back with EVERYTHING installed and a couple of dual 30″ Cinema displays (Apple also reduced the costs of their Cinema Displays by as much as $200). Wanna hanker a guess? $15,995.00! We’ll take three of them. Now where did we put that piggy bank?
