Lest I forget…
Microsoft Windoze Vista was released today. And the crowd goes…”YAWN!” So just what does VISTA stand for? See image on the left. I know, I know, I’m a Mac fan boy. But in all honesty, I don’t have virus or spyware protection installed on my Mac or my Ubuntu box. No need, no threat, no troubles. Gotta love it. I understand that Microsoft is touting this as the most secure version of Windoze yet. Let’s see if any headlines hit tomorrow to dispel that claim. If we can get through the evening of it’s first day of release, it might actually be true, but somehow I doubt it just as I doubt that my Mac will ALWAYS be virus and spyware free. It’s gonna happen sometime…but not now.
While visiting a local retailer today, Nikki and I noticed the Vista boxes on the shelves. There were three versions available. Three? Sheesh, how is the average consumer going to figure this one out. My guess is that they will see the Windoze Ultimate Take My Cash Edition and just shell out the bucks for features they really don’t need.
I really can’t believe how much Microsoft is charging. Now, more than ever, folks should consider alternative operating systems such as OS X (which would require new hardware and for some folks so will Vista) and Ubuntu (which will require a bit of learning curve, but you will probably still be able to use your older hardware). Heck, having installed the beta of Vista on my Mac running Parallels, I really can’t see why anyone would want to upgrade. Aero (the fancy/schmancy animations and window transparency stuff) “ain’t all that” and the new security features really aren’t necessary anyway if folks would just practice some safe computing habits (don’t visit those web sites and quit opening those attachments in e-mail).
