Make your own cola, the open source way

Image:Opencola.pngWe love open source software. It’s cold and refreshing on a hot summer’s day. Well, maybe not cold, but here’s some open source goodness that is; the open source soft drink. While perusing our daily RSS feeds, we ran across a refrence to OpenCola on Wikipedia. Here’s an excerpt from the Wikipedia entry:

OpenCola is a brandofcola unique in that the instructions for making it are freely available and modifiable. Anybody can make the drink, and anyone can modify and improve on the recipe as long as they, too, license their recipe under the GNU General Public License. The legal grounds for this are dubious however, as recipes are exempted from copyright as they are techniques, not artworks. Although originally intended as a promotional tool to explainfree software/open source software, the drink took on a life of its own and 150,000 cans were sold.

The entry also contains an ingredient list and the brewing instructions. If anyone has had a sip or is going to make an attempt to brew their own be sure to let us know how it tastes. Or better yet, send us a couple of bottles to enjoy during the sweltering Summer months.
