New Metropolis footage located

I am always amazed when even today, with all our technology and resources, we find lost dinosaurs, missing artwork and new archeological discoveries. But none of them have been as amazing for Sci Fi fans as this new find in, of all places, Argentina. Read the bit below and comeback for my take.

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — Lost scenes from the sci-fi classic “Metropolis,” recently discovered in the archives of a Buenos Aires museum, were shown to journalists for the first time in decades on Thursday. A long-lost original cut of the 1927 silent film sat for 80 years in a private collection and then in the Museum of Cinema in Buenos Aires, where it was discovered in April with scratched images that hadn’t been seen before.

For those not in the know, Metropolis inspired any number of future Sci Fi films. And no, this is not the same city where Superman hangs his cape, although it was probably the inspiration for that fictional city as well. It is even said that the robot from Metropolis was the inspiration for Lucas’ C3PO. How exciting that a new cut of Metropolis will be on our way with additional scenes that better flesh out the difficult storyline and also provide a better look in and around the city.

What I found most amazing about this film when I saw it was the cinematography and the special effects. Truly ground breaking. Kinda like when you see the original King Kong and think, “that ain’t half bad!” When you see Metropolis and consider the time in which it was produced, I think you will say to yourself, “WOW!” Be sure to try and view the film that is currently out before seeing the new version. You can usually find the film playing on Turner Classic Movies, check it out at the Library, or you can purchase using one of the many Metropolis links within this post.
